Doors & Windows

March 13th, 2008

You know the saying “When one door closes, another one opens.” Well, that adage is definitely being put to the test this month!

Check your local Michaels Arts & Crafts store and you will discover that they have discontinued classes nationwide. I have had the pleasure of teaching some great people and fun projects at Michaels for over 3 years now. And I hope to again if they decide to re-offer them.

In the meantime, doors have already been opened and new classes are forming. And windows of opportunity are beginning to open just as we are opening up to the wonderful warmth of springtime. As I mentioned in my last blog, there’s a new kid in town … !

Yes! A new yarn store … but before you think, gee, we don’t need another one … this is like no other store in Portland! Check out Yarnia, the dreamscape of Lindsey Ross. She has cones and cones of fantastic one-ply yarns, all kinds of fiber, and this really cool (but big) machine sitting quietly in the corner, like a museum relic. But take the time to pick out 3 or 4 of your favorite colors and then Lindsey fires up that machine and voila! You have your own custom-designed 3 or 4 ply yarn! It is sooooo cool!

Yarnia is located in SE Portland on Division St. and 42nd , right around the bend from Kalga Café. Her website is yarniapdx.com . Great shop – great idea – great parking – and great owner!

And I’m going to be teaching there beginning in April. Yay!
April 7th – Basic Knitting. And then, date TBD – Crochet socks! Maybe you don’t knit but you can still make socks! Check back next week for the class date.

I’m back from my East Coast family visit and I STILL didn’t finish the project that I took with me to finish. And then brought it back home to finish. And I’m still – well, you get the picture.

Speaking of pictures … I promised the photo gallery would be updated this month … I still got a couple days, ok? New website coming too with a new idea for Ladies Nights!

And don’t forget, I am now available for private classes and parties. In your home with your friends and family, at your church or club group meeting … Red Hat ladies, Girl Scouts, bridal or baby showers, birthday parties … get those creative juices flowing and have a lot of fun at the same time. Beadwork of all kinds, knitting, felting, crochet, and quilting are my specialties. I’m a patient teacher, an experienced crafter, and, especially, an enthusiastic laugher! Together we’ll design a class, a party and an experience!

Be joyful, my friends! Smiling is good for your face … joy is good for your heart … laughter is good for your neighbor.

Spread a Thread of Joy!
